First Time Dock Jumping

Water had always been part of Minnow’s story.

As a young puppy, we enrolled her in dock diving swim lessons to give her a safe and positive introduction to the water. While Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers are naturally drawn to swimming, we wanted her first experiences to build confidence and help her discover just how much fun the water could be.

It didn’t take long.

She took flight.

What began as cautious introductions quickly became fearless leaps from the dock. Minnow launched herself into the water with complete confidence, splashing down with the same excitement she brought to every new adventure.

Watching her soar through the air was pure joy.

There was never any hesitation or uncertainty—only trust, enthusiasm, and the belief that something wonderful was waiting on the other side of every jump.

That confidence stayed with her throughout her life.

Whether she was swimming in a peaceful Michigan lake, exploring beneath a rushing waterfall, or racing through the salty waves of the Atlantic Ocean, Minnow embraced every opportunity to be in the water.

It wasn’t simply about retrieving a toy or mastering a skill.

It was about the happiness she found every time her paws left the dock and she soared through the air.

Her fearless spirit became a reminder that the greatest adventures often begin with a single leap.

Minnow taught us that confidence isn’t about never feeling uncertain—it’s about trusting yourself enough to move forward anyway.

Every jump became a celebration of curiosity, courage, and the simple joy of doing something you truly love.

Long after the splashes disappeared, those moments remained some of our favourite memories, reminding us that sometimes the best way to discover what’s waiting ahead is to take the leap.
